National Sports Commission director-general Bukola Olapade has assured that there is no going back on the May 16– 30 2025 date of the National Sports Festival billed for Abeokuta, Ogun State.
As States being to prepare for the zonal eliminations of the team sports billed for 23rd – 28th February 2025, sports officials are apprehensive of another shift as the host Ogun State continue to work on getting the ‘Gateway Games” venues ready.
“We are just preparing for the NSF zonal eliminations, we don’t know for sure if the May date will stand,” said one of the State coaches.
“You know how it is with our NSF; they can just wake up one morning and tell us that it has been postponed that is the usual pattern.”
However, Hon Olopade dismissed any fear of postponement saying that the NSC, the main and local organising committee are working towards delivering a Sports Fiesta in line with the new vision of sports development in Nigeria.
“By the grace of God, I can confidently tell you the May 16-30 date for National Sports Festival is sacrosanct, it is cast in stone.
“We are going to have a great National Sports festival,” Hon Olapade stated.
