Fulham were interest in signing Fenerbahce right back Bright Osayi-Samuel in the January window, but the deal collapsed as coach Jose Mourinho blocked the move.
Osayi-Samuel eager to return to London had his wish put on hold till the summer when he would be leaving on a free transfer. Fenerbahce were keen to let him go in January so that they cash in, but Mourinho cried to the club hirachy that he would have no right back in the team if Osayi-Samuel left.
According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu , Mourinho opposed the idea of the 27-year-old leaving the club by saying. “If Osayi leaves, I will have no right backs left in Europe, I am aiming for the final and the cup.”
His words forced the club into keeping the Nigerian and also continue to hope that he will have a change of heart and commit his future to them.
Osayi-Samuel refused to sign a contract extension despite Fenerbahce making an improvement in his pay.
