Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi was a major cause for concern in Tuesday night’s FA Cup tie between his club Nottingham Forest and Exter at St James’ Park.
Awoniyi made his presence felt by scoring to put Nottingham Forest ahead after the home side had gone ahead in the 5th minute and Ramson Sosa equalising for Forest. Ed Turns turned the game on its head for the league one club side to drag the tie into a shootout.
But before Forest triumphed on 4-2 shootout win, Awoniyi had been stretched out of the pitch after a clash of heads with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth in stoppage time.
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that Awoniyi suffered a broken nose that could take two or three weeks to heal properly.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery,” the club posted on their X page.
Awoniyi who is eager to make a return to the Super Eagles could miss the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March following the injury.
