Vinicius Junior who was man of the match as Real Madrid beat Manchester City 3-2 at home, said he was fired up by the banner mocking his Ballon d’Or ‘defeat.’
Man City fans unfolded a life size banner at the Etihad Stadium, with the photo of midfielder Rodri kissing the Ballon d’Or trophy with a caption “Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ – a song title by Oasis a rock band known be supporting City.
But that didn’t stop the Real Madrid star who supplied the two goals that nailed City after Pep Guardiola’s men had gone up 2-1.
“I saw it, I saw the banner. Whenever the opposing fans do things like that, they give me more strength to have a great game and here I have done it,” said Vinicius.
Meanwhile the player has accused referees of failing to protect him even as he is known to be a hard player with five yellow cards and one red in LaLiga, and three more yellows in Europe.
“Sometimes it’s difficult,” Vinícius told Movistar on Tuesday.
“Referees don’t protect the player who gets kicked. When I get kicked, I get the yellow card … My teammates and coaches try to help me to focus. But I’m not a saint.”
