Defender Kevin Akpoguma who is eyeing a return to the Super Eagles has declared that despite the slow start of the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria will at the end, top the group C chart.
The Super Eagles will play against Rwanda on March 17 in Kigali and then return home to play Zimbabwe in Uyo, those games, are a must win for the team if with their four points, hope to leapfrog Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic who are tied seven points.
Akpogumu who has played eight times for the Super Eagles said the Super Eagles remain the best team in the group and are capable of turning things around.
” With all due respect to the other teams, we are the best team in that group and will definitely pick the ticket,” he told OwnGoalNigeria.com
“The slow start doesn’t matter when you have six more games to go. A lot can still happen because there is a lot to play for.”
The 29 years old Hoffenheim defender said he is hopeful of making a return to the team. He played his last game in 2023.
” It’s the dream of every player to play at the world cup and my immediate goal is the 2026 edition with Super Eagles.
“I hope to be a part of the team and also play a role during the tournament.”
