All is now set for the 2025 and 10th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon with athletes from home and abroad ready to hit the road Saturday morning for the 42km race and 10km fun run.
Speaking Friday in Lagos during a press conference general manager of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Yusuf Alli said all arrangements has been made for the smooth running of the race that would be flagged off at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, by 6.30am, while the 10km race will take off by 7.30. The finish point remains the Eko Atlantic City along Ahmadu Bello Way Victoria Island.
“The roads as usual will remain closed throughout the duration of the race. Security and comfort of the runners are topmost priority, we have more water points along the Third Mainland Bridge.
“The runners would be chipped and there would be spy cameras on the route to avoid short cuts. And of course we are following the World Athletics doping protocols,” Mr. Alli noted.
Managing Director/CEO of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, added that getting the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon to a Platinum Label status was the organisers target for this year’s race.
“Our eyes are set in achieving this, which I think will be a strong position for Lagos State and Nigeria as a country,” she said. “We have done everything we can, and I am optimistic we will get it.”
Mrs. Olopade commended the sponsors, especially the Lagos State government and Access Bank, saying it has been 10 glorious years of strong partnership.
On his part, the Group Head, Corporate Communications, Access Bank Plc, Amaechi Okobi, said: “We are happy many sponsors have joined this race, but we have to do everything possible to make it better.”
The Chairman, Lagos Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the state government would always support the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon because it has become one of the most prestigious races across the globe. “It has provided the platform for our people to share ideal with foreigners from different parts of the globe,” he said.
