Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, said reports about firearms being discovered in his office are false and malicious.
According to online reports 47 pump-action guns were discovered in Obasa’s office by officials of the Department of State Services during a visit to the assembly on Monday. But in a statement made available to the media Wednesday Obasa said: “The ill-conceived story, apart from being a complete concoction, clearly exposes its author and paymasters as maliciously of low intelligent quotient, only out to malign my hard-earned reputation spanning decades of political leadership and legislative hard work.
“The discovery, according to the story’s specious account, led to immediate notification of ‘the State Security Service, who in turn sent in their men to take inventory of the arms and also take them into custody while an investigation is scheduled on the development.
“From the foregoing, it is obviously discerning that my traducers are furtively attempting to call a dog a bad name just to hang it.”
Meanwhile new the Speaker of House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has dismissed reports she quit her position.
“It is a lie from the pit of hell. There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is her office as we speak, and everybody is talking about his or her business.
“We do not know where the story is coming from. The Speaker has not resigned and there is no plan for that,” the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye told journalits on Wednesday.
