The clatter of ping pong balls echoed through the Lagos Country Club’s Table Tennis Arena as the 2nd O’jez Ladder Tournament reached its electrifying climax. From Monday, February Friday 24 to February 28, 2025, the arena became a battleground of skill, strategy, and sheer determination, culminating in a spectacular finals and social event.
The tournament, generously sponsored by Mr. Joseph Odobeatu, Chairman of Ojez Entertainment Group, delivered on its promise of high-octane action. Alozie Uzoukwu, representing Mr. Odobeatu, delivered a rousing speech, congratulating all participants and praising the spirit of sportsmanship that permeated the competition. “On behalf of Mr. Joseph Odobeatu, I congratulate all participants. It has been a thrilling competition, showcasing great skill and sportsmanship,” Uzoukwu declared. “A special congratulations to our champions—your hard work has paid off!”
Mr. Abiodun Bamgbade, Chairman of the Table Tennis Section of Lagos Country Club, echoed the sentiment, expressing his immense satisfaction with the tournament’s success. He lauded the players, the management, and, crucially, Mr. Odobeatu for his unwavering support since the tournament’s inception.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the crowning of the champions. In the fiercely contested League One, Ivy Ikokwu emerged victorious, claiming the coveted gold-trimmed trophy and a slew of mouth-watering prizes. Sola Adeseun and Mabinuori Lukman secured the second and third positions respectively.
The other categories witnessed equally thrilling battles. In the Ladies’ category, Mrs. Bolaji Odugbesan took home the top prize, with Mrs. Akpan securing second place. The Super Veteran category saw Alhaji Breimoh dominate, followed by Lekan Elugbaju and Kunle Bamgbose. ITT Jimoh triumphed in the Veteran category, with Segun Odesanya and Ben Oleh claiming second and third positions. League Two saw Lekan Alli Balogun take the lead, with Rasheed Bello and Debo Aderoju rounding out the top three.
