Rivers House of Assembly threatens to arrest Rivers electoral commission boss… Ijaw youths spit fire

Tension is building up in Rivers State as the House of Assembly has threatened to arrest Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd) chairman of the Rivers Independent Electoral Commission, if he fails to appear before it within 48 hours.
This move by the House empowered by the Supreme Court ruling last week is coming after the RSIEC announced a timetable for the local government elections. Speaker of the House Martin Amaewhule made the threat Wednesday, during a plenary. He also ordered governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit the names of all his commissioners that were not screened the assembly.
On Tuesday the House had given Mr. Fubara 48 hours to submit his budget for the year 2025, so far, the governor has not complied.
Meanwhile the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide, has warned that any attempt by the House to impeach governor Fubara would be resisted.
“The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide is using this medium to inform everyone in the Nigerian State that the Ijaws will not stand idly by and watch political gimmicks unfold in Rivers State with the sole intent of truncating the administration of His Excellency, Siminalaye Fubara, Executive Governor of Rivers State, an illustrious son of the Ijaw nation,” said statement signed by IYC spokesperson Amb Binebai Princewill on Wednesday.
“For the Ijaw people, this goes beyond mere politics; it has taken an ethnic dimension. We will not allow any ethnic group in Rivers State to hijack and truncate our Ijaw tenure. This is a fight we are prepared to wage with every fiber of our being. The Ijaw Youth Council stands fully in line with the Ijaw National Congress (INC) on this matter.
“People cannot hide under the guise of the judiciary or politics to undermine democracy and punish perceived political enemies. Rivers State is a multi-ethnic state, and what was not done when other ethnic groups were in power cannot be allowed to happen when an Ijaw, a major ethnic group, is in charge. As Ijaw people, we are unfazed by any consequences if anyone attempts to impeach Governor Fubara.”
