Nigeria’s Super Eagles are expected to converge in Kigali, Rwanda for their make or mar 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Amavubi on March 16.
It will be Eric Chelle the new Super Eagles first test and he is looking to have clear four days of training with the team before the encounter on March 21 at the Amahoro Stadium. The game against the Amavubi who are topping the group C qualifiers with seven points and a goal difference advantage over South Africa and Benin, must win for the Super Eagles if they hope to qualify for the World Cup.
Before Eric Chelle’s coming the Super Eagles drew three of their games and lost to Benin Republic and Eric Chelle is expected to build a team that can deliver from the 39 players he invited for the ties against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Speaking on the importance of the matches ahead; Ahmed Musa who is returning after almost 15 months absence said: “The important game is Rwanda. If we can get the three points from that match it’s going to be a turning point for us.
“But it is not just a job for the Super Eagles alone. Every Nigerian must be involved because we need their support.
“Super Eagles cannot afford to be absent from the 2026 World Cup after we missed Qatar 2022. It is going to be a big disaster for Nigerian players not to be at the World Cup.”
