Nigeria’s major oil facility Trans-Niger Pipeline was ripped apart by an explosion on Monday night in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of the state.
This incident happened the same day the Rivers House of Aseembly served governor Siminalayi Fubara an impeachment notice. Some Niger Delta militants had warned the Nigerian government of sabotage following threats to remove Mr. Fubara and also the Federal government withholding funds allocation due to Rivers State.
Though details of incident still remain in obscurity there are insinuations due to the nature of explosion, it might have been the hand work of saboteurs.
Confirming the sad occurrence Tuesday in Port Harcourt during a chat with journalists, Rivers State police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, said investigations are on to unravel the cause of the explosion, which could hamper daily oil production. It is one of Nigeria’s biggest oil pipelines.
The TNP, formerly owned by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, was later sold to Aiteo Group, and has the capacity to produce 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Eyewitness reports revealed that the explosion impacted a main section of the pipeline.
