Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko said after 60 years in the Nigerian film industry he has not made money that will put him in the bracket of wealth Nigerians.
Speaking with “The Honest Bunch” in a recent podcast, Kosoko said: “I have been in this [movie] industry for this long. I’m grateful for the ability to consume three square meals. But can I claim to be a rich guy by Nigerian standards? “No.”
He called for harsher punishments for pirates, who in his opinion are making money from other peoples sweat.
“In my opinion, the penalty for infringement under the copyright law is still insufficiently severe. Would you like to impose a fine on a billionaire who has been stealing people’s works for years?
The 71-year-old actor started his foray into the movie business in 1964 with television series Makanjuola. He has since made appearances in hundreds of Yoruba and English-language Nollywood films.
