Delta State governor Sheriff Oborevwori thrilled by the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival he reiterated his commitment to the development of sports especially at the grassroots level.
Governor Oborevwori who was speaking at opening of the Games Wednesday at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo Akwa Ibom State said upgrading of sporting infrastructure and creating opportunities for young talents to attain excellence are a major priority for his administration.
“Around the world, nations invest in sports not just for entertainment but as a means to engage the youths, forster discipline and promote healthy lifestyles.
“Here in the Niger Delta, where our people are known for resilience, energy, and determination, sports serves as a unifying force, breaking barriers and opening doors to greater opportunities”.
“We remain committed to developing grassroots sports, improving sports infrastructure and supporting young athletes in their pursuit of excellence,” said Governor Oborevwori who was represented at occasion by Senator Emmanuel Aguarivwodo.
The Governor also commended the Board of the Niged Delta Development Commission( NDDC) for adding sports development to their intervention projects saying “I extend my gratitude to the NDDC for organising this remarkable event, which is more than just a competition. It is celebration of our shared heritage, our unity and the boundless potential of our young people”.
Oborevwori charged the participants to give their best while embracing the spirit of fair play. “Compete to win, but above all, compete to grow”, the Delta State Governor urged the athletes.
