The Nigerian Railway Corporation said it would halt the Warri-itakpe train service after a break down experienced by travelers in the middle of a forest in Kogi State on Tuesday April 9, 2025.
“In view of the situation, the NRC has suspended operations on the Warri-Itakpe route for 72 hours. This pause will allow our technical team to conduct a full audit, resolve all identified issues, and restore safe and reliable service,” the statement signed by Henrietta Eregare, NRC’s public relations read.
On Tuesday passengers were stranded after the train suffered a break down in the remote part of Kogi State. They trekked for almost three hours before getting to the next settlement.
“We were stranded in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forest and with no idea how long the repair would take. So, we decided to start trekking,” one of passengers shared a video in Facebook.
He said they encountered “Fulani herders” and remarkably they weren’t harmful but helpful
“The Fulani herders we met were very helpful. Contrary to the fear many of us had, they guided us and showed kindness throughout the walk,” he added.
