Former 110m hurdler and Athletics Coaches Association of Nigeria president, Solomon Aliyu has made a strong case for coaches to be represented on the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
This is against the background of preparations for the upcoming sporting federations elections scheduled for between the months of May and June.
Aliyu stated that it was important that coaches are adequately represented, and their voices heard because of the crucial role they play in development of track and field.
In recent years the board of the AFN has carried on without the inputs of coaches, but according to Aliyu who declared his interest to be on the board as Coaches’ Representative, that has to change as results continue to elude the country at international track and field contests.
“My vision is to enhance coaches’ education, support athlete development, and foster collaboration between the board and the coaches. I’m also committed to ensuring that coaches have a say in the next board,” said Aliyu.
He called on coaches around the country to close ranks and support his quest to reposition Coaches and athletes’ development.
