President Bola Tinubu has met with suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara in London with a view of resolving the political crisis in Rivers State.
According to reports the meeting was at the instance of Fubara with former governor of Rivers Nyesom Wike not part of the meeting last week, a development which left him fuming, sensing that Fubara might return to his position before the six months suspension period lapses.
During the meeting, Fubara promised to make some compromises, like possibly joining the All-Progressives Congress.
It was gathered that Tinubu was happy with the meeting and is open to reconciling Fubara, Wike, and the rivers’ lawmakers with a view to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the state.
Meanwhile another round of protest over the emergency rule took place in Port Harcourt Tuesday. Hundreds of women cladded in black Attire marched through the major streets of Port Harcourt, carrying placards decrying the emergency rule.
“Tinubu, please bring back our governor,” “Leave Rivers State alone, Fubara is our governor,” “Wike, nobody disturbed your 8-year rule,” “God is watching you, Wike, the Pharaoh of Rivers/Nigeria.”
Other placards read: “We don’t want this imposed state of emergency again,” “We want our elected governor, Fubara back,” “Governor Fubara is the pride of Rivers people,” “Together, we stand for Governor Sim Fubara,” and “Ibas, Park your load and go back to Calabar.”
Mrs Agnes Wariboko, a private medical practitioner in Port Harcourt, told journalists on the sideline of the protest that they volunteered to embark on the protests to register their displeasure over the prolonged and unmerited declaration of emergency rule on Rivers.
