Delta State governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and signed on to be a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development was made known by governor’s press secretary Festus Ahon Wednesday after a closed door meeting between the governor, his government officials and PDP members at the government house in Asaba.
Last year a group of concerned PDP elders had accused the governor of planning to join the APC, but he denied contemplating such move.
Interestingly, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, PDP members in Delta, local government chairmen and other stakeholders have also jump ships. Confirming the development Senator James Manager said the PDP was a sinking boat: “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” he said.
Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials in what political analysts are already describing as a strategic realignment with significant implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
