Businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu has protested her Tuesday morning arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Ms Achimugu was picked up by EFCC agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 5.00am when she arrived from London. She had been declared wanted by the anti-corruption agency after she failed to honour an invitation in March 28, 2025 to face accusations of money laundering.
During a court hearing on Monday a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had ordered her to appear in the Abuja office of the EFCC and Ms Achimugu volunteered to appear, but against the court ruling the EFCC picked her up on arrival.
According to reports she had refused to eat in protest of her arrest. Her legal counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed her development saying her arrest went against the Court decision on Monday.
“Aisha Achimugu who arrived voluntarily in the Country from London was arrested by the EFCC around 5.00am on Tuesday.
‘In light of what transpired in Court on Monday, my client returned based on the undertaking before the Court to honour the EFCC’s invitation but was arrested at the airport.
“She is a prisoner of conscience,” said Mr. Ojukwu.
The case is scheduled to continue on Wednesday.
