Lawyers under the aegis of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, Wednesday marched against the declaration of emergency rule in River State.
During a demonstration in Abuja the lawyers called for the recall of all elected government officials sacked by President Bola Tinubu declaration of state of emergency and later installed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, (rtd) as sole administrator of Rivers State.
There have been wide condemnations of the suspension of governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months even as the sole administrator has been accused of going out his mandate to pander to the wishes of former governor Nyesom Wike who is believed to have orchestrated the state of emergency declaration by Tinubu.
Speaking to newsmen during the protest, which also took the Lawyers to the US embassy in Abuja, Barr. Uche Chukwu Udeh Sylvester argued that the declaration of the state of emergency in Rivers State is unconstitutional and undermines democracy.
