Delta State governor Sheriff Oborevwori said he would love to see former governor James Ibori hop on the All-Progressives Congress train as soon as possible.
Oborevworie was speaking during a Church service for late Amos Utuama a former deputy governor of the State at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Otu-Jeremi, in Ughelli South LGA. He said it was important the political family built by Mr. Ibori gather in one political party, rather than be scattered in different political tents.
On April 23, 2025 Oborevworie, his entire cabinet, local government chairmen and other political associates, dumped the People’s Democratic Party that has held power for all 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, and joined the APC. Oborevworie’s predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa also jumped ships.
Ibori who has remained silent in all this drama was at the service for late Otuama. He will probably not forget how he was outsmarted by former governor Okowa in the politics of who takes over from him in the 2023 elections.
But in Nigeria’s chameleonic and prostitution politics it won’t be a surprise if Ibori takes the big jump. His daughter Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, started the gale of defections from the PDP to APC in December 2024.
“You know, you must talk to your elders and seek counsel from the elders,” Oborevworie said at the service.
“When you are leading your children, some are in APC, some are in Labour Party, some are here, and I asked him (Ibori), ‘when is he going to join us?’ And I know he will join us very soon in APC, so that when you go to Abuja, you won’t speak in different voices. I will receive our leader in Jesus’ name.”
