Barcelona escaped a shock defeat in Wednesday night’s first leg Champions League semi-final tie against Inter Milan and Denzel Dumfries believes it was the best version of the Italian side that showed up.
Marcus Thuram gave Inter a dream start at Nou Camp and Dumfries scored a brace to put the Serie A side in good position to secure a famous victory.
But Lamine Yamal speared headed a fight back for Barca. Yamal, Ferran Torres and an own goal by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer tied up the game.
“It was a good performance, after three consecutive defeats, I saw the real Inter. We played with heart, I’m proud,” Dumfries told Amazon Prime Video Italia.
“Naturally, we wanted to win, but it was a good game, it’s all wide open and we’ll see at San Siro.”
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said his side his team put up a great show against Barca.
“We played a great game, clearly were 2-0 up, I still don’t understand why that goal was disallowed, so there are also regrets.
“But we know that we put in a great performance against in my view right now the best team in the world,”
The second leg will be decided at San Siro on Tuesday May 6.
