Fans who watched early Sunday morning’s heavyweight boxing contest between Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba and Congo DR’s Martins Bakole are unsatisfied with the outcome of the bout staged in Riyad, Saudi Arabia
Ajagba was the more active fighter in the ring, while Bakole struggled for most of the fight, though he came out strong in the later rounds, fight fans felt Ajagba had done more to win the contest with as much as two rounds. Judges Bob Williams and Pablo Gonzalez, both scored it 95-95.
The result didn’t go down well with Fans. Esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael, tweeted: “We go to the scorecards in #BakoleAjagba: 96-94 Ajagba, 95-95 x 2. A draw. Laughable. Ajagba won that…
“Bakole as one dimensional as it gets and never landed a big shot. #boxing.”
WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson was in agreement, as he posted: “That’s a robbery.”
And there was a similar reaction from fans. One supporter wrote: “Efe got robbed. Bakole was eating them punches all day.”
Another posted: “They just robbed Ajagba, he won that fight Bakole’s team might have ruined his career with that Parker move lol. Eddie Hearn or Frank would never put Bakole in that Parker’s fight.”
Meanwhile, a third remarked: “That Efe Ajagba fight was not no draw, Bakole lost that.”
Ajagba (20-1-1, 14 KOs) said: “I won the fight to be honest, I won the fight but it’s not up to me to decide, it’s the judges’ decision. But if you ask me, I won the fight.”
