The Nigerian Senate Tuesday set up a committee tasked, which has been tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.)
According to Senate president Godswil Akpabio the 18-member committee headed by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele will ensure there is transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
He urged the committee to commence its oversight duties without delay, stressing the urgency of their assignment and reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to upholding democratic processes in Rivers State.
Meanwhile the House of Reps oversight committee is yet to have a full session with Ete Ibas. After two failed attempts the sole administrator asked for more time to brief the House on his activities.
The House is exercising its constitutional right to take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In April Ibas attended the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
