The death of 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin by suicide has left Nigerians reeling with shock as they wonder what could have pushed a young woman to taking her own life.
Miss Faith Timilehin reportedly ingested rat poison because she scored 190 in the recently released Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The young lady whose parents reside in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was living with her elder sister in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State, at the time of the incident. After taking in the poison, she became ill and was rushed to the hospital where she died before medical help could reach her.
Shockingly, after her death Faith Timilehin received a provisional admission offer via email from JAMB to study Microbiology – the course she had applied for.
A close family source revealed that Timilehin had previously sat for the UTME in 2024 and expressed disappointment that her latest score was lower than her previous result.
“She said her last year’s score was better than this one. She had hoped for a better result and was devastated,” the source said.
“This is really shocking to all us and she was such a humble young lady.”
Another Neighbour lamented that the situation in the country is causing a lot of people pain.
“A lot of people are on the edge because what we are going through in the country. Young people are not spared.
“Even look at the way the JAMB exam was conducted a lot of irregularities every… ah the frustration is just too much in this country.”
