Crystal Palace Saturday shocked Manchester City with a first half goal scored by Ebere Eze to win the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s 164-year history.
And for Manchester City it is their first season without a trophy since coach Pep Guardiola took over the reins at the Ethihad Stadium. The disappointment was huge for City as they had hope to compensate themselves with the FA Cup.
Manchester City dominated the game but failed to find a way out with the Crystal Palace defence, Palace keeper Dean Henderson made crucial saves to keep his side in the game after Eze had scored in the 16th minute.
Hendersen was lucky to remain on the pitch after he handled the ball outside his area during a tackle on Erling Haaland. VAR reviews affirmed that he did not deserve a red card. The England keeper then save the penalty awarded.
After the match Guardiola refused to shake Hendersen’s hands.
“I went to shake his hand, and he said he was disappointed with the time wasting. I said ‘you got your 10 minutes, didn’t you? But there we go,” Hendersen said.
Speaking on the win he added: “Incredible. We had a feeling it would be our day today. The manager got a gameplan and we executed it. We deserve this so much.” On his penalty save, he added: “To be fair, Haaland might have stepped up. He gave it to Marmoush and I knew which way he was going. I knew I would save it.”
