With three gold medals in the bag already, Ese Lovina Ukpeseraye said Wednesday her target is to win as much as six gold medals for Rivers State.
The 2024 Africa Games silver and bronze medalist in the time trials and road race respectively, noted that she came to the Gateway Games with an aim to win as many medals as possible and improve on her overall performance.
“I won gold in the mix relay, individual event and four pursuits.
“There are so many other events still to come and my teammates and I are redoubling our efforts to ensure a clean sweep for Rivers,” said the Ukpeseraye who represented Nigeria at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
In Wednesday’s 200m sprint heats Ukpeseraye was given a reality check by Edo State’s Osaretin Godwin.
Godwin beat Ukpeseraye to the second place in what was seen as a warning sign.
Both cyclists will meet again on Thursday in the semi-final and final.
Cycling enthusiasts are now expecting a show down between the two athletes. However, Ukpeseraye is expected to dig deep and retain the 200m gold she won in 2022.
