Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim said he would leave Old Trafford the next day, if the club’s management and fans wants him to.
Amorim led United to a torrid season which climax with their 1-0 Europa League defeat to Tottenham Wednesday night in Bilboa. Winning the trophy could have salvaged some pride for the Portugues born coach.
It was the forth defeat United suffered in the hand of Tottenham this season. The London club with the win will not play the Champions League next season, despite coming behind United in 17th place in the Premier League.
United so badly wanted the opportunity to play in the Champions League to attrack big name players to the club in the summer transfer window. United appointed Amorim in November but they have won six out of 26 league games.
“In this moment, I am not going to be here defending myself, is not my style,” Amorim said. “I cannot do it, is really hard for me. So, I have nothing to show to the fans to say I am going to improve because of this, I had these problems, I will not do nothing.
“In this moment, it’s a little bit of faith. So let’s see. Like I said before, coming here before in the flash, I am always open. If the board and fans feel that I’m not the right guy, I will go the next day without any conversation about compensation.
“But I will not quit again. I am really confident in my job and, as you can see, I will not change nothing in the way I do things.”
