Nigeria army troops of Operation Hadin Kai fought back a combined assault by Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements in New Marte in Borno State.
The army in an X social media post said the attack occurred on between 1.35am and 2.00am Tuesday, the clash left two soliders dead, while several insurgence were eliminated.
“In a joint land and air operations, troops of Operation Hadin Kai defeated a BH/ISWAP night attack on New Marte, Borno State in a gruelling battle that commenced at 1:35 am this morning,” the army said in an X post.
“Sadly, two soldiers paid the supreme price while a number of the terrorists were neutralised. Troops are currently in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists.”
A large number of the terrorists had storm the the 50 Task Force Battalion in New Marte, according to Zagazola Makama, a security publication. Pressed by the invading terrorists, the Nigeria army troops recieved reinforcement from the 24 Task Force Brigade garrison and the 134 Special Forces Battalion, engaged the terrorists in a gruelling battle.
The insurgents were forced to make a retreat and many were killed by as the Nigeria Airforce added firepower from the air.
