President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike to give a 14-day grace period to regularise their documents and settle outstanding debts.
On the orders of Mr. Wike, the FCT had on Monday, May 26, sealed up several business including banks, filling stations, the Federal Inland Revenue Service office, and Peoples Democratic Party national secretariat sparking a national outrage.
Following the President’s intervention the FCT authorities unsealed the premises…This was confirmed in a statement released by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on public communications and social media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Meanwhile Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Dele Momodu praised Tinubu for calling Wike to order. Writing on his X page he said: ‘’THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TINUBU, Your Excellency.
” I have just read the news here in America that you have stepped into the matter of your cantankerous Minister of FCT, MR NYESOM WIKE who sealed the National Secretariat of the PDP, the biggest rival of your ruling party, APC, and properties of other defaulters in Abuja earlier.
“While no one should condone non-compliance of government obligations, government must always restrain itself from vindictive outbursts such as that of Nigeria’s most querulous politician who I’m sure is fast becoming a liability to your government. The decision to stop Wike achieved several points in your favour.”
