Contrary to reports drugs markets in Lagos and Onitsha and Abia has been reopened, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said Friday the markets remain closed until shop owners have paid regulatory and investigative fees.
NAFDAC Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known while addressing journalists she insisted that the markets remained close and that the agency is unwavering in its commitment to rid Nigerian streets of illicit and adulterated drugs.
“There is no unconditional opening of any market or shop,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.
“NAFDAC is standing strong. We are not caving in. It is time to protect our people. It is time to stop women dying.
She revealed that at fake and illict drugs worth N1trillion were confiscated between February 9 and March 27, 2025 in Idumota Lagos, Onitsha Bridgehead and Ariaria Abia
“At the Bridgehead market alone, we evacuated 137 40-foot truckloads of illicit drugs, including 10 full truckloads of unregistered Tramadol,” she disclosed.
