Former national triple jump champion and now coach, Olu Sule is spearheading a caucus of ex-athletes who are aiming to occupy a sizeable majority of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria board membership slots.
According to coach Sule it was about time resourceful ex-athletes dominated the board so that they could influence decisions and co-ordinate technical matters and of course mitigate against any form of crisis in the federation.
“There is no other better time than now to flood the board of the AFN with ex-athletes, though in the outgoing board we have a good number, their impact was not felt.
“This is why have realigned ourselves with want to have a majority on the board. We don’t care who is going to be president of the AFN…all we are after is board to that will function effectively and competently in pursuing the goals of the AFN.
Mr. Sule will be contesting in the North Central zone in the zonal elections billed for June 2-3.
“Well, everything looks good, and I am positive that results will go my way. I have the support of my colleagues like Fatima Yusuf who is from the zone. We are working together for the overall benefit of track field in Nigeria.”
