The Athletics Coaches Association of Nigeria has consoled the Kano State government, its sports commission, coaches and athletes over the tragic death of members of its contingent to the last National Sports Festival in Abeokuta Ogun State.
Nigerians woke up to the news of the sad occurrence on the morning of Saturday May 31, 2025, which left of the 22 members of the Kano contingent including coaches, athletes, journalists who had participated at the Gateway Games dead in ghastly lone auto crash.
Speaking on the tragic turn of events ACAN president Solomon Aliu said it was heart breaking to hear of the demise of the athletes and coaches who had been at the Gateway Games competing and were gladly on their way back home after a good outing.
“One day there were here with us in Abeokuta, we said our goodbyes only to hear that they had an accident.
“ACAN mourn the tragic loss of life out condolences to the family of the coaches, athletes and others who lost their lives. We mourn and stand with Kano State through this difficult moment,” Aliyu said.
