Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has lambasted Port Harcourt based pastor, David Ibiyeomie, for threatening to arrest people who criticise him online
Mr. Adeyanju who is legal counsel to VeryDarkMan pointed out that threats from pastors are turning people away from churches.
The uproar took off after footage of Ibiyeomie, head of Salvation Ministries, was widely shared online. In the footage, the clergyman talks harshly to those who have put his sermons in a negative light online, threatening them if they keep it up.
In the trending video, pastor Ibiyeomie said:
“Don’t carry my news. I don’t want your news… I will arrest you, I will lock you up. I don’t care. No man of God will pray for you and succeed…”
Many people accused him of acting against the teachings of Christ following his remarks. VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, was among those who strongly opposed the preacher.
Adeyanju made his feelings known on his X social media page.
“I’m so disappointed in Papa David Ibiyeomie warning and threatening Nigerians not to talk or criticize him or his church else he will lock them up. Who are you sir that people can’t talk about your church or criticize you?”
“People criticized Jesus and He did not lock them up. And boasting about using police to lock people up, a pastor ooo! These pastors are acting like unbelievers and de-marketing Christianity. They are the reason many people are no longer going to church.”
