US President Donald Trump indicated that his relationship with billionaire Elon Musk is over after the Tesla boss criticised Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Trump told journalists Thursday that he is not sure he would continue to be in working relationship with Elon Musk who largely financed his presidential campaign last year. Musk left his role at Department of Government Efficiency after falling out with President Trump on a number of issues. On Tuesday Musk called Trump’s agenda bill an “abomination.”
Musk doubled down on X, saying that the bill was filled with “pork” – wasteful government spending – and writing: “Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill.”
Trump said he was “very surprised” and “disappointed” with Musk’s out bursts.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” Trump told reporters in the White House on Thursday.
“Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than anyone… and he only developed a problem when he found out I would cut the EV (electric vehicle) mandate… And it really is unfair.”
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Musk fired back on X.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote on X. “Such ingratitude,” he added in a separate post.
