Veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti had his first feel of international football when Brazil his new job drew 0-0 with Ecuador in a South American World Cup qualifier played at the Estadio Monumental in Guayaquil.
Before signing up with Brazil in May Ancelotti had enjoyed a successful career as a club manager
“My first match in charge of a national team, my heart felt something special,” said Ancelotti.
“I was on the bench for more than 1,800 [club] matches and this one was special.
“I think I can make an assessment of this first period. I was happy with the reception, I feel delighted to work with the CBF [Brazilian football federation] and, for me, it is a gift to be here.”
The result leaves Brazil in fourth place in the qualifying group, with 22 points after 15 matches.
Ecuador are in second place with 24 points, 10 points behind leaders and World Cup holders Argentina.
“We have very good quality players. There is not much time to work, but there is the possibility of improvement because we have quality,” added Ancelotti, whose team host Paraguay in their next game on Wednesday, 11 June.
