One of the witnesses to be presented by the Federal government in its defamation suit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is said to be a fugitive who escaped from the law.
The witness Sandra Duru also known as Prof. Mgbeke is alleged to have committed a crime by defrauding one Mrs. Edith Adefunke Edidot, the sum of N10 million and also threatened to cause her death in August 2015.
Sandra Duru was dragged to court for prosecution by the Lagos police, but she fled the country in 2017. She is now back in the country ready to testify against Akpoti-Uduaghan in the case brought by the FG accusing the Kogi Senator of defaming Senate president Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.
Akpoti Uduaghan, according FG prosecutors defamed Akpabio and Bello when she appeared on April 3, 2025 where accused the duo plotting to assassinate her.
Both Akpabio and Bello who are nominal complainants in the suit were listed as witnesses, alongside Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Dr. Sandra Duru, ACP Maya Ilya and SP Abdulhafiz Garba.
But according to ThisDay reports the case might have taken a new twist with the listing of Sandra Duru as a witness. She was arrested by the police and charged to court and later fled the country after she was granted bail. One of her surtey was imprisoned for three months.
