Factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Atiku Abubakar Isah Tuesday was hauled before a Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja to face charges of impersonation and public incitement.
Isah was dragged to court by the Department of State Services (DSS) after spending weeks in the custody of the agency. The DSS accused Isah of parading himself as NANS president and also inciting students to disrupt a meeting of elected officials of the student body.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety in like sum.
According to Sahara Reporters the directive to arrest and detain Isah came from Olusola Ladoja, who claims to be the NANS president and is backed by a faction allegedly supported by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Ladoja allegedly wrote a formal letter to the DSS requesting Isah’s arrest.
While in the custody of the DSS he was subjected to inhumane treatment according to a family member he was denied proper feeding and slept rough.
