As preparations for the 3rd edition of African U18/U20 Championships get into an advanced stage, 240 sports journalists from within and outside Nigeria have registered their interest to cover the event.
This is almost half of the 500 number of athletes from 54 countries, billed to will participate in the championships scheduled for July 16-20 at MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the organisers, over 198 Nigerian sports journalists applied for accreditation, while about 42 application came from outside the country.
A member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), said yesterday that the number may be scaled down due to the available space in the media Tribune at the stadium.
“Due to the small capacity of the media tribune we can’t accommodate that large number of reporters there.
“So we are going to scale down on the number to be accredited and we sincerely hope those who will be affected can bear with us,” said the LOC member.
