A man has been sucked into the engine of jet plane preparing to take off at the Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy.
According to local reports, the victim who shredded abandoned his vehicle and ran towards the terminal.
Once inside the arrivals area, the man is said to have opened a security door that leads directly to the aircraft parking area.
Witnesses said the victim was chased by police officers as he sprinted across the runway.
Investigators are working on the possibility that the victim’s actions were deliberate and “premeditated suicide”.
The aircraft was believed to be an Airbus A319 operated by Spanish carrier Volotea that was traveling from Italy to Spain.
All 154 passengers and six crew members on the flight were safe following the incident.
Italian authorities are investigating how the individual was able to reach the runway.
After the incident, the airport posted on social media that they were suspending flights from 10:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. due to a “problem that occurred on the taxiway,” and air traffic resumed at 12:00 p.m.
