Nigeria’ Super Falcons Sunday played a goalless draw against Algeria in their last group B game of the CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations.
Like every other games the Super Falcons dominated play, but lack of goal scoring remained their undoing at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
Nigeria top the group with seven points, Algeria have five points. Nigeria will meet Zambia in quarter final, while Algeria take on hosts Morocco.
The Super Falcons must now gear up as they face tougher opponents in the knock out stage of the tournament.
Coach Justin Madugu said: “Every match gives us something new. We rotated the squad, maintained a clean sheet, and learned to grind out results when the goals don’t come.”
Algeria coach Farid Benstiti praised his team’s resilience and discipline: “We knew it would take a perfect defensive game to hold Nigeria. I’m proud of the girls – they showed heart and tactical maturity.”
