Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s burial will now hold On Tuesday by 2pm in Daura, his hometown, after his remains failed to arrive from London where he died on Sunday July 12, 2025.
Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda told news reporters Monday that following consultations with the late President’s family and close associates in London, it has been agreed that the body of the former leader will arrive in Katsina tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by 12 noon.
Governor Radda expressed deep condolences on behalf of himself, the Government, and the people of Katsina State, to the family of the late President and to all Nigerians mourning the loss of a “national icon”.
The federal government as mark of honour has declared Tuesday a public holiday in honour of late President Buhari. This was disclosed by the interior minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, according to a statement by the ministry.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the minister said.
Meanwhile the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it will pause all political activities in honour of the late former President.“President Muhammadu Buhari was a statesman of exceptional character. As a soldier, he fought bravely to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of our nation,” said a statement signed by Interim national chairman of the ADC David Mark.
“As a democratically elected President, he contributed significantly to the growth and consolidation of democratic governance in Nigeria. His leadership reflected discipline, commitment, and a deep sense of patriotism
“We believe it is only fitting that his name and contributions be etched permanently into the national memory through the establishment of monuments, institutions, or initiatives that reflect the values he stood for.”
