Nigerian coaches at the CAA U-18/U-20 Championships have been raging over how they have been paid N50,000 and told to hit the road back home after the conclusion of the competition in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Even at that some of them have not received the payment, which they felt is a slap on their face after being in camp and the competition proper for more than three weeks.
Some of the coaches pointed to the fact that it is an international competition, and they ought to be in dollars as it has always been done in other competitions or the naira equivalent since Nigeria was hosting the event.
“We have been short changed and have been grossly abused with the payment of that pittance.
“Some of us are stranded in Abeokuta unable to go back home to their families, some came from far away, which the money they are giving cannot even cover the transportation.
“Besides we weren’t give appropriate clothing for the championships, whereas we have more adequate puma kits.”
Reacting to the development on ground Athletics Federation head coach implored the coaches to be patient, because an agreement has been reached between the federation and the National Sports Commission to pay the coaches N200,000.
“They’ll be paid before the week runs out, it is unfortunate but this is the situation we find ourselves in at the moment but we’re a work in progress, it can only get better God’s willing.”
