Popular Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, a.k.a Daddy Lumba, has died at 60.
He died of undisclosed illness at the Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, Saturday throwing the entire country into mourning.
Daddy Lumba known for his soulful melodic voice captured the hearts of Ghanaian and West African music fans in the late 1990s and 2000. He released over 30 albums and captivated generations with classics such as Aben Wo Ha, Theresa, Yentie Obiaa, and Playboy.
By Saturday evening his residence at East Legon Accra was besieged by a multitude of his fans while Ghanaian radio stations jammed his music.
In an official statement issued by the family through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, they described Daddy Lumba as more than just a musician.
He was a cultural icon whose voice and lyrics left a deep imprint on Ghana’s soul, the statement said.
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives.
“His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the statement read.
