The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has lodged an official protest with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over what it described as “influential refereeing errors” during the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, in which Morocco lost 3–2 to Nigeria.
HESPRESS reports that the FRMF has submitted a formal complaint with DVD evidence of biased refereeing decisions by Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa, with Rwandan assistant referee Alice Umutesi and Senegalese assistant Tabara Mboge during the final last Saturday at the Olympics Stadium in Rabat.
According to the Moroccans the officiating benefited the Nigerian Super Falcons who came from 2-0 down in the first half to overwhelm the Atlas Lioness with three goals in the second half.
They argued in the complaint that the referee upturned a handball by Nigerian defender Tosin Demenhin after VAR review. Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga, Leticia Viana from Eswatini, and Zambia’s Diana Chikotesha were in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team.
CAF has yet to publicly respond to the Moroccan federation’s complaint.
