Nigeria’s minister of state for foreign affairs Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been engaged in talks with Ghanaian officials in a bid to nip in the bud the rising anti Nigerian sentiments in the friendly West African country.
Bianca met with the Foreign Minister of Ghana, Sam Ablakwa in Accra on Wednesday and was expected to meet the Ghanaian President John Mahama Thursday as both countries look forward to more cooperation.
This is coming on the heels of pockets of protests by Ghanaian citizens calling for the deportation of Nigerians especially after a group tried to install “Eze Ndi Igbo Ghana” and build a mega city in the Prampram community in Ghana.
Bianca assured Nigerians of their safety in Ghana urging them to be law abiding after talks with her Ghanaian counterpart.
Writing on his X social media account Ghana’s foreign minister Ablakwa noted: “It is heartwarming and reassuring to know that the Nigerian government does not endorse any part of those condemnable pronouncements by the gentleman.
“Ghana and Nigeria reaffirmed our cordial and inseparable historical relations with a firm commitment to ensuring that this recent blip is not allowed to mar our great relations.”
In addition, he assured that there is no threat of mass deportations of Nigerians living in Ghana.
Ablakwa added, “Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu assured that President Tinubu’s government will also continue to guarantee the safety of Ghanaians living in Nigeria.
“Ghana and Nigeria cherish our admirable bond of friendship,” he said.
