Up and coming high jumper Treasure Omosivwe became the youngest athlete to win the women’s high jump of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria national trials after clearing a height of 1.75m.
Omosivwe who is 15-years-old, on Saturday achieved the feat with a personal best performance to win the title at the Yaba College of Technology sports complex Lagos. This was after she was prevented from contesting at the CAA U-18/U-20 Championships due to rules barring athletes under 16.
The 1.75m was an improvement to the 1.70m performance she did at the final of the 2025 MTN Champs.
Omosivwe was discovered at the 2023 Princess Mabel Madojiemu School Championships: since then she continued on her journey to the top.
“I’m super excited, Treasure our girl is now the national champion,” Princess Madojiemu said.
“She is very young, her future is very bright and it’s my prayer she gets a scholarship and goes where she can be groomed to become a world champion.”
Madojiemu thanked coach Mutiu Oluwa and former Edo State Sports Commission executive chairman, Yusuf Alli for their contributions towards Omosivwe’s development.
Veteran high jump coach, Johnny Igboka who worked with Omosivwe during the AFN camping exercise towards the CAA Championships, said the young jumper has the potential to go over 2.00.
“If she continues with her training and no disruptions, by the time she is 19 or 20, she would be doing 2.05m
“She has improved on her run up, but there are other techniques she has to work upon and now is the time to keep working at it.”
