Nigeria’s D’Tigress Sunday beat Mali 78-64 to win a fifth consecutive Afrobasket title.
With the feat Nigeria has qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
In the first quarter Mali took the lead and finished up in 26 – 20 for the first quarter. D’Tigress fought hard to take control of the game in the second quarter but the Malians held on tight battling Nigeria to a stand still at 41-41 points apiece.
However, in the third quarter Nigeria found a way around Mali’s tight marking and managed to surge ahead with 61-56 points against Mali.
In the fourth quarter D’Tigress denied the Malians any chance of a fight back and held on to finish the game on a good note.
D’Tigress coach Rena Wakama with the win became the first female coach to win the title twice in a row. Wakama said she was pleased with the outcome of the game adding that it always been her dream to win titles.
