Winners....D'Tigress players smile home with $100k each

President Bola Tinubu Monday at the State House celebrated with the victorious D’Tigress of Nigeria after the national basketball women team won a fifth consecutive Afrobasket title in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Tinubu who was represented by Vice President Kassim Shettima rewarded the team players with $100,000 each, apartments in the Federal Capital Territory and also the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The coaching crew led by Coach, Rena Wakamawill also receive $50,000 and plots of land each in recognition of their accomplishments.
The First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, were also present at the occasion.
D’Tigress remained unbeaten in the continent on Sunday when they edged Mali 78–64 in the final of the Afrobasket. This was after they came back from behind to beat Senegal in the semi-final.
The victory also secured Nigeria’s automatic qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.
The President had also treated the national women football team the Super Falcons to a bonanza of rewards and awards after they won their 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations title, coming from two goals down to beat hosts Morocco 3-2.
