Former Super Falcons of Nigeria striker, Patience Avre Odeli says she is fascinated by the reward policy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that more sporting heroes and heroines would be produced regularly.
Avre who is based in the USA said she was particularly thrilled by the level of reception and appreciation of Sugar Falcons and D’Tigress teams after emerging champions at the just ended Women Africa cup of Nations in Morocco and the Afro Basketball Championship in Cote d’Ivoire .
” I doff my hat for our sports loving President and his beautiful wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for honouring and appreciating both teams,”
“I’m convinced that such regular receptions would inspire other sportsmen and women aim to rule the world.
“Nigeria is blessed with lots of sporting talents but lack of motivation by past governments retarded progress.”
Avre and her teammates during their time didn’t get cuch honour by different governments despite winning four African titles, qualifying for the quarter final of FIFA Women’s World cup and an Olympic games appearance.
The former aggressive attacker said she and her peers were victims of insensitive and ungrateful past governments.
“Most of us laboured for nothing. Some players have died while others are battling to recover from different injuries sustained while representing Nigeria.
“Some other players are mentally exhausted amid economic stress ignited by poor reward system in our time.
“I’m using this opportunity to appeal to our papa and mama (President Tinubu and wife ) to set another record by appreciating former Super Falcons players. It’s possible and worth it. Being African Champs nine previous times before the one in Morocco is no mean feat. It’s painful most of us have nothing to show for these efforts “, lamented Patience Avre Odeli who confirmed efforts to reach out to the presidency through Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko .
“Certainly Malam Dikko and his team are very credible and giving sports a new face. The president made good appointments and it’s surely a new dawn for Nigerian concluded the Delta born Avre whose appeal to Tinubu has full support of the likes of Martha Tarhemba , Prisca Emeafu , Kikelomo Ajayi , Judith Chime Kamala , Rachel Asabor, Stella Mbachu, Ayi , Precious Dede amongst others.
