Still reeling from Sunday’s storming of its premises by the agents of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, the management of the Green Legacy hotel, is preparing grounds for legal action against the Federal government agency.
Green Legacy Hotel an arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State was raid at about 2.00am on Sunday. The hotel managing-director, Vitalis Ortese, said that about 50 armed men from the EFCC in a Gestapo style, shot into the air and threatened to kill hotel staff and guests at an event.
“It should also be noted that both the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates and additional police sent from the Kemta Police Station, as requested by the organisers of the event and management, stated that they were not informed of any planned operation by the EFCC and neither did they present any warrant,” Mr. Ortese in a statement.
“Management wishes to state that this action by the EFCC is a clear case of invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL rights, a corporate citizen, and indeed a stark and blatant violation of the rights of the people who so gathered for the event.
“The management demands an explanation of these impudent actions from the commission and an apology from the EFCC authorities for the infringement of its rights, to all those who gathered, and those who sustained serious injuries from the gangster like induced chaos. Failure for which the management will be compelled to seek redress,” the statement said.
The EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, said Sunday the agency was after internet fraudsters. He noted that 93 suspects were arrested, adding that the arrest was a sequel to credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in internet crimes.
“Upon their arrest, 18 vehicles and mobile devices were recovered from them.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.
